Security is on everyone’s minds these days. Especially online. Most browsers are beginning to indicate which sites are not secure. If you collect any information or sell products online, having a secure site is a must. It doesn’t do much for your reputation if users don’t see the little padlock in the address bar indicating your site is secure.
What does it take to secure your site? First, you need to get an SSL certificate. These can be ordered oftentimes right though your web hosting provider or from third parties like Thawte and Commodo. There are self-signed certificates that are free, but browsers don’t really consider them secure enough. Even purchasing third party certificates can be a little confusing because there are different tiers. For example, if you are simply securing a site versus securing an ecommerce site you might use a different level of certificate. Then it needs to be installed on the site. Lastly, the domain information needs to be modified to reflect the site’s change of status.
Why am I explaining this? To let you know that you don’t have to handle it yourself. Since TeKno Ziz is your developer, we can suggest, order and install the certificate for you as well as make the necessary changes to see it reflected on the site and in your viewers’ browsers. The cost is dependent on the type of certificate required and the time necessary to install it on the site and make the DNS changes, typically no more than a couple of hours.
